Accra2023: Ghana wins silver in Men’s 3X3 Basketball with loss to Algeria
Ghana missed out on winning gold in the 3×3 Basketball Men’s competition at the 13th African Games after losing 11-16 to Algeria in the final.
The host nation of the African Games for the first time, dominated early proceedings and established a 9-6 lead but slowed down in the latter half of the game to blow its lead.
Ghana gave up a host of rebounds giving Algeria second chance opportunities to score which they did to beat out the host to a first ever gold medal in the competition.
Despite the loss, Ghana finished second and bagged its first medal in the history of the competition with Uganda finishing third via 17-11 win.
In the Women’s Division, Mali beat Nigeria in the West African derby 21-11 with DR Congo beating Benin to finish third. Ghana exited the tournament at the quarterfinal stage after losing 17-19 to Nigeria in overtime.
The final day of competition attracted top dignitaries including Chef de Mission of the 2023 African Games, Ernest Danso, Botswana Basketball Association President and FIBA Africa 3×3 Council Chair, Ambrose Tashobya.
