Dr. Atuguba Pays Courtesy Visit to ITAM
In a significant development for the field of traditional medicine in Ghana, Dr. Atuguba, the Regional Acting President of the Ghana Federation of Traditional Medicine Practitioners (GHAFTRAM), made a landmark courtesy visit to the Institute of Traditional and Alternative Medicine (ITAM) at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ho, Volta Region, on April 10, 2024.
This visit was not only notable for its intent to foster collaboration between GHAFTRAM and ITAM but also marked the first personal meeting between two passionate figures in traditional medicine, Prof. Kwame Banga, Director of ITAM, and the famous Dr. Atuguba himself.
The discussions centered on the forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will formalise the collaboration between ITAM and GHAFTRAM, aiming to promote research, education, and the application of traditional medicine practices for the benefit of communities in Ghana and beyond.
The visit provided an invaluable opportunity for ITAM staff and faculty to glean insights from Dr. Atuguba’s vast experience and contributions to traditional medicine. It was an inspiring day that underscored the potential of traditional medicine in enriching healthcare solutions globally.
This collaboration between ITAM and GHAFTRAM, facilitated by the leadership of GHAFTRAM’s General Secretary, Dr. Nana Kwadwo Obiri, and the National President, Prof. Samuel Ato Duncan, is a beacon of hope for the advancement of traditional medicine.
