Teacher Unions in Volta and Oti Regions Petition Regional Minister for Educational Reforms
Three prominent Teacher Unions in the Volta and Oti Regions have joined forces to address longstanding grievances affecting their work.
The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT-GH) have collectively petitioned the Regional Minister to prioritize the welfare and professional development of teachers.
The unions have highlighted several critical issues, including the Extra Assessment Allowance, the Book Data/Online Allowance, Teaching Support Allowance, and the upward adjustment of the CPD Allowance.
Despite numerous appeals to the government, educators have felt neglected and unsupported in their roles.
Representatives from the teacher unions, led by Mr. Kassim Seidu Baba, the Regional Secretary of NAGRAT, marched to the premises of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council to present their petition directly to the authorities.
Mr. Augustus Awiti, the Coordinating Director, received the petition on behalf of Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, who assured the teachers of a swift response.
“We are committed to addressing the challenges faced by our teachers. The government recognizes the invaluable contributions of educators to our society, and we will work diligently to ensure that their concerns are heard and addressed.” Mr. Awiti stated.
Teachers across the regions remain hopeful for positive outcomes and meaningful reforms that will enhance their professional satisfaction and ultimately benefit the nation’s students.
